Lady Boy
The theme for this range is entitled, ‘Lady-Boy’, as the essence of it comes from combining masculine features with feminine ones, i.e. a waistcoat dress, to create an androgynous look. This particular garment reflects this theme as it has a voluptuous gathered skirt with feminine lantern sleeves. While the braces, tucked bib and oversized shape, give it more of a masculine feel.
This garment is part of a range which has been designed to fit into the Marc by Marc diffusion line, as Marc Jacobs often uses quite an androgynous, masculine look on the catwalk. It has been designed for the diffusion line rather than the Marc Jacobs label because it would appeal to a younger consumer as it’s an edgy, fashion-forward design. The Marc range is also more wearable and accessible to the type of consumer who would buy this product.
The Lady-Boy range has been designed as trans-seasonal 08/09 since it has light fabrics such as cotton, mixed with the use of wool and tweed for coats and jackets, making it wearable throughout the seasons, although it would most likely retail from the end of Summer to the beginning of Autumn.
